Psychotherapy is a learning process designed to help you explore your issues, concerns and emotional wounds, and to teach you new tools for coping, new ways of sorting through dilemmas, and new ways of thinking about yourself and your world. Ultimately, together with your therapist, you will work toward both reducing troubling symptoms like anxiety, stress, or depression and finding greater peace within yourself.
In order for you to get the most out of your psychotherapy experience, you will need to make a commitment of time and energy. During the course of therapy, progress is not necessarily immediate or steady. Be patient with yourself and the process. It will require your courage, patience and perseverance as you face your issues and emotional pain.
Psychotherapy is a process that takes time to become comfortable with and you will undoubtedly need to discuss personal, sensitive issues. The rapport that develops between you and your therapist is seen as one of the most important factors in the success of your therapy. Therefore, it will be important for you to find a therapist who feels like a good fit for you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and voice preferences.
We all have a belief system. Even those who don't believe in anything have a belief system of non-belief. So in the simplest of terms, spirituality is one's own belief system and how that shows up in one's life. Spiritual direction, or companioning as some prefer then, is the practice of being with another in a non-judgmental way as they explore their life through their own belief system. We all have an innate desire to know ourselves and our world. Like a Himalayan Sherpa, the Spiritual Director or Life Coach is there to help uncover possible new routes while also helping shoulder the load one carries.
"I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other."
