DAVE WEHNER
The Zulu greeting Sawubona means, "I see you", or more precisely, "we see you"--the plural 'we' representing the ancestry of the village. It's more than visually recognizing another. It's an affirmation of one's own worth and dignity. It celebrates one's value and one's right to exist.
If you're reading this then you're ready to do some self-examination, and considering who might be a good fit to offer some guidance. That's a big step--congratulations! Let me share a little about myself.
I grew up in a home where bullying and shaming were synonymous with discipline. I supported a family while still in my teens, with only a high school education, always feeling victimized by life. I sought happiness and meaning in relationships, geographical changes, drugs, and alcohol...everywhere but within. My drug and alcohol addiction kept me in denial of a deep longing to be comfortable in my own skin...to know myself.
Emotionally, spiritually, and financially bankrupt, I ended up in the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. It was this spiritual program that shook up old belief systems, shifted perspectives, and opened my heart and mind. The key to happiness, I discovered, came from within. Not only did I lose my desire to escape my feelings and sense of self, but conversely, developed a passion for self discovery. It's been this journey to self awareness, nurtured over the last 26 years, that has led me to the Institute for Emotional Healing with the desire to sit with and companion others on their journey through life on life's terms.
Dave has spent the last 26-plus years sponsoring and mentoring others while exploring and developing his own spirit-based core. He is a recent graduate of Tacheria Interfaith School of Spiritual Direction, based in Tucson, and holds an honorary degree from The School of Hard Knocks. The life skills that Dave brings to his practice have honed him into a wise and compassionate guide with a heart that is open and courageous.
